Australia Part 4 - January 2010

Wow...what a great two days in Sydney. On Thursday, we were taken by our hosts and friends here in Sydney, Ivor and Ruth David, together with one of their friends, Tom Rev, who happens to own the only kosher butcher store in Sydney, on a tour of the Blue Mountains.

The Blue Mountains is a mountain range to the west of Sydney about a 100 km. drive away. The area is most beautiful and Tom, who used to live up in the Blue Mountains (because his grandfather had the only kosher hotel up there where Sydney people used to vacation) gave us a up close personal tour of the area. There are a few major sights to see (hopefully you will have a chance to see some of those sights once I develop my pics) and the scenery and landscape is magnificent.

On our return, after davening mincha and maariv in the central Sepharadic Synagogue (beautiful building), we took our hosts and their friends (Tom and his wife) out for dinner to Pita Mix which was quite a good Israeli type grill restaurant.

This morning (Friday) we went to Lubavitch for shacharis and then went on two lovely tiyulim. First we went on the Bondi Beach to Bronte Beach which is a cliff hugging four km walk along the cliff. The views are wonderful. It was very hot (about 35 C) but the ocean breezes moderated the heat.

We then went to a local bakery for lunch and then headed downtown to the harbour. We took the ferry to Manly Harbour which is a 30 minute ferry cruise that allows you to see the entire vista of the city from the water. WOW...really breathtaking!

It's now about 4 Pm and we are back at our hosts and getting ready for Shabbat. We are davening tonight at the Central Synagogue which is the "place to be" in Sydney and I understand that they have a great choir leading the services tonight. I'll let you know how it is...

Hope all are doing well...have a wonderful Shabbat....

Best regards

Fran and David
